While Cramer Law provides specialist family law services across all of New Zealand, our roots and extensive practice history are firmly planted in the Auckland region. Navigating the Family Court system in a high-volume environment like Auckland requires more than just legal knowledge; it requires an understanding of the local court dynamics and the urgency of the metropolitan legal landscape.

Whether you are dealing with complex property divisions or sensitive parenting arrangements, having an Auckland-based specialist ensures your matter is handled with the priority it deserves.
Why Experience Matters in Auckland Family Law
Auckland is the most populous city in New Zealand, and its courts are the busiest in the country. This volume creates unique challenges for legal timelines.
My practice specializes in:
• Urgent Protection Orders: Understanding the critical requirement that an order is only effective upon service—a nuance often overlooked in general advice.
• Complex Parenting Orders: Navigating the “Parenting Through Separation” and FDR requirements specific to the Auckland region.
• Child Support & Financial Agreements: Providing the same flagship expertise found on our national resources, tailored for Auckland-based professionals and families.
Strategic Local Advice, National Reach
Based in Manukau, Auckland, I offer the convenience of a local practitioner with the strategic oversight of a national expert. Naomi Samantha Cramer’s history as a former volunteer for the Kaitaia CAB and Women’s Refude, with a long-standing practitioner in the Auckland region allows me to bridge the gap between community-focused legal aid and high-stakes specialist representation.
Protection Orders & Family Violence Advocacy
With over 27 years of experience as a Barrister and Solicitor, Naomi Samantha Cramer provides expert legal representation under the Family Violence Act 2018. Her case results reflect a deep commitment to ensuring the safety of individuals and children through the strategic use of Family Court orders and robust advocacy.
Urgent “Without Notice” Protection Orders
In situations involving immediate risk, Naomi specializes in securing Temporary Protection Orders on a “Without Notice” basis. This urgent legal mechanism is vital for clients requiring protection before a respondent is notified of the application.
• Immediate Safety Outcomes: Naomi has successfully obtained urgent orders within 24–48 hours for clients facing physical, psychological, or financial abuse, ensuring immediate legal safeguards are in place.
• Proving Undue Hardship: Her expertise lies in drafting comprehensive affidavits that meet the high threshold for urgent applications, demonstrating to the Court that any delay would create a risk of harm or undue hardship to the applicant or their children.
Discharging Orders
A balanced legal system requires robust representation for all parties. Naomi provides senior-level counsel in complex proceedings where a Protection Order is being challenged or requires modification.
• Discharging Final Orders: Naomi has successfully represented clients in applications to discharge Protection Orders under Section 109, arguing that the respondent no longer poses a risk and that the order is no longer necessary for the protected person’s safety.
• Contesting Temporary Orders: In cases where an order has been made on a “Without Notice” basis, Naomi has effectively represented respondents in “On Notice” hearings, ensuring that the Court hears a full and balanced account of the circumstances before making a final determination.
Property Orders
Protection often requires more than just a non-violence condition. Naomi expertly navigates the Family Court to secure customized orders that reflect the unique needs of a family.
• Occupation and Furniture Orders: Naomi frequently secures Occupation Orders, granting her clients the right to remain in the family home and retain essential furniture, ensuring stability during a time of crisis.
• Tailored Special Conditions: She has a proven track record of seeking “Special Conditions” on Protection Orders, such as specific non-contact boundaries or requirements for the respondent to surrender firearms and attend mandatory non-violence programmes.
Navigating the Family Violence Act 2018
Since the 2018 Act replaced the Domestic Violence Act 1995, Naomi has been at the forefront of applying the modernized definition of family violence, which includes coercive and controlling behaviour. Her work ensures that the cumulative harm of psychological abuse is recognized by the Court, providing her clients with the long-term protection they deserve.
Child Custody & Day-to-Day Care
With over 27 years of experience in the Family Court, Naomi Samantha Cramer specializes in resolving complex parenting disputes. Her practice focuses on the “welfare and best interests of the child” standard as mandated by the Care of Children Act 2004, achieving stable and sustainable care arrangements for New Zealand families.
Success in Complex Day-to-Day Care Arrangements
Naomi has a proven track record of securing Parenting Orders that provide clarity and security for children. She excels in high-conflict cases where parents cannot agree on where a child should live.
• Primary Care and Stability: Naomi has successfully represented parents in seeking primary day-to-day care (formerly known as sole custody), particularly in cases where one environment offers greater stability for the child’s schooling, health, and emotional development.
• Shared Care and 50/50 Split: She has successfully negotiated and secured shared care arrangements that ensure children maintain meaningful, near-equal relationships with both parents. These results often involve carefully drafted “week-about” or “split-week” schedules that minimize disruption to the child’s routine.
Resolution of Guardianship & Relocation Disputes
Guardianship involves the big-picture decisions—education, medical care, and where a child lives. Naomi provides senior-level advocacy in guardianship disputes that threaten the status quo.
• Preventing Unauthorized Relocation: Naomi has successfully applied for urgent orders preventing removal of a child from a specific region or from New Zealand, safeguarding the child’s existing relationships and jurisdiction.
• Resolving Education and Healthcare Impasses: She has a history of resolving “Special Guardianship” issues, such as disagreements over school enrollment or elective medical procedures, by focusing the Court’s attention on the child’s long-term welfare.
Establishing Safe Contact & Supervised Access
When safety or parental alienation is a concern, Naomi ensures that contact arrangements (formerly known as access) are managed with precision and security.
• Supervised Contact Orders: In cases involving history of risk or long periods of absence, Naomi has secured orders for supervised contact. This allows for the safe rebuilding of parent-child bonds in a monitored environment, often as a stepping stone toward unsupervised contact.
• Re-establishment of Contact: She has successfully represented parents who have been “cut off” from their children, utilizing the Family Court to re-establish regular, meaningful contact through phased-in parenting plans.
Advocacy for the “Best Interests” of the Child
As a senior Barrister and Solicitor, Naomi Samantha Cramer ensures that every Parenting Order is robust and enforceable. Her approach integrates the views of the child (often through cooperation with a Lawyer for Child) while providing parents with a clear legal roadmap. Her work in this area is a cornerstone of her reputation as a leading authority in New Zealand Family Law

Visiting the Auckland Courts Navigating the various courts across the Auckland region can be stressful, so I recommend planning your arrival in advance. For the Auckland Family Court, the most reliable parking is at SkyCity (accessible via Federal or Albert St), located a short walk from the nearby Sudima Hotel. If you are attending the Manukau Family Court, there is free 4-hour parking across the road at Westfield Manukau—aim for the carparks outside Countdown to ensure you are in a 4-hour zone. Alternatively, paid parking is available behind the court, though it fills up quickly. For hearings after 11:00 am, you can often find free parking at the Rainbow’s End carpark nearby.
North Shore, West, and South Auckland For the North Shore Family Court in Albany, parking is straightforward with 4 hours of free parking available at the adjacent Westfield Albany mall. If your matter is at the Waitakere Court, it is very accessible via public transport, located just a few minutes’ walk from the Henderson Train Station. Similarly, the Papakura Court is about a 5-minute walk from the Papakura Train Station; however, street parking in Papakura is limited and can be more difficult to secure, so arriving early or using the train is advised.
